Pacifica Policy Statement
Pacifica recognises and understands that unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste. Recycling is important as many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and human health.
Pacifica carries out appliance repairs which frequently involves the replacement of spare parts. A part which is replaced is defined as WEEE under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013. The legislation requires Pacifica to have a formal process for this WEEE.
Pacifica Procedure to comply with WEEE Regulations
Pacifica repairs domestic electrical appliances for a wide range of customers, but does not manufacture, distribute or retail these appliances. As part of our repair process, we operate our own internal WEEE takeback scheme.
We confirm that when we fit replacement spare parts, we have an internal process “the Pacifica takeback scheme” which means that when the original broken component is removed from the appliance, it is sent to our National Distribution Centre where a record of receipt of these broken spare parts and components is made. We then document that these are then provided to a Licensed external Waste Carrier organisation who removes these in due course and disposes of them in accordance with all legislation relating to the disposal of WEEE. Our records are kept for at least four years and are available for inspection by the Secretary of State on demand.
These records are available at Pacifica National Distribution Centre, Unit 1, Monument Park, Pattinson North, District 15, Washington. Tyne & Wear. NE38 8QU
This efficient management of WEEE and records is necessary to support Pacifica’s core business functions, to comply with its legal, statutory and regulatory obligations, and to demonstrate the effective management of WEEE within the company. This Policy and the associated Pacifica Takeback Scheme meet the standards and expectations set out by contractual and legal requirements and have been developed to meet the best practices of business records management, with the direct aim of ensuring a robust and structured approach to document control and systems. The Pacifica Takeback scheme and associated process therefore meets the requirements set out in the WEEE regulations 2013.
Effective and adequate
We have confirmed our arrangements with the Office for Product Safety and Standards which is part of BEIS, the government Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. A copy of this policy and procedure is made available on our website and will be reviewed and updated at least annually, or more frequently if there are any changes in the WEEE Regulations.
